Fighting seems bad. Fighting hurts and can leave you bruised and scared be it physical or verbal. It seems confusing. Why should I fight? Why do I have to defend myself? Life should not be this hard and tiresome. I should not have to resort to violence. These are the thoughts that flood my mind when I am constantly told to be strong, to fight. What am I fighting for? I don’t want to be strong right now and then it dawned on me. In this season of my life it’s vital that I fight. Yes it is true that God is fighting on my behalf but I have to do something as well. I’m drained, I’m weak and I really don’t feel like it but I have to. In 2 Corinthians 12:9 God reminds me that his strength is made perfect in my weakness. He encourages me to Get Up out of despair, to Get Up out of my sadness. God pushes me to Get Up and Fight.
My boys and I were watching wrestling on television the other night. They love wrestling and is waiting in great anticipation for the new wrestling video game to come out soon. So we were watching an old match. It was one of the greatest matches of all time, Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant. If you are familiar with wrestling than you know exactly which one I am speaking of. In 1987, Hulk Hogan had to go against his biggest opponent ever. A man who was labeled a giant, not only in wrestling but in real life as well. Hogan didn’t know how things would go. He had never been in a situation like this before. All he knew was that he had to fight because fighting was his only way out. During the match Hulk Hogan was knocked down several times and it seemed that every time he would get back up, he got knocked down again but he continued to fight and by the end of the match he was named the ” Heavy Weight Champion of the World”. Yes, He won! He beat the giant!
That one match gave me courage to face the giants in my life. The giants that are attempting to steal my peace, that are attempting to steal my joy and that are trying to make me lose hope. We have to stand up to these giants and fight just like The Hulk did. We have to fight for our promise and for our future. We have to make a decision that we will not succumb to our circumstances nor to our pain but that we will Get Up and we will Fight. God has already given us the victory.
1 Corinthians 15:57 ” But thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” .
Let us pray: Lord we love you and we thank you for everything you have done in our lives and for everything that you are going to do. We ask that you will give us courage and strength to fight the giants that are rising up in our lives. We pray that you will give us the tenacity to keep going when we feel like giving up. We pray that you will keep us in your perfect peace and under your divine guidance and protection as we chase after you and your will for our lives. We believe that it’s already done in Jesus’s name. Amen.
