Most people know a plague to be a contagious disease that spreads rapidly and kills many people. The most common plague that is still being discuss in our American history is the small pox epidemic. The disease harmed a lot of people. The Ebola Virus is another one that is more recent; but check this out! I also learned during my research that a plague is a thing that causes trouble or distress. Is anxiety plaguing you? Is it making things more difficult for you? Is it causing you to overthink everything? Is it causing you to worry about things that should really be the furthest things from your mind, things that are really beyond your control? Is anxiety depriving you of sleep? Is it stealing your peace and joy? If you answered yes to any of these questions then anxiety is plaguing you but don’t be discouraged. There is hope!! We can’t just make it go away because anxiety is a natural human emotion that is actually healthy to feel from time to time; however, when anxiety becomes a more frequent part of your life and worry and fear consumes you then it becomes a problem. Some people may need to seek counseling and maybe get medication ( consult your primary physician ) but I’ve found that spending time with my Heavenly Father is more than enough for me. Being in his presence calms me and soothes my mind and spirit. Reading his word and prayer helps me to refocus and regain control of my thoughts. I love writing and reading so when I feel myself becoming anxious I will write or read a good book and since all of my writings and favorite reads are spiritual based, I’m calming my thoughts while still being in the presence of God. Another technique that I’ve recently adopted is recording an audio journal. So instead of writing my thoughts, I’m speaking them aloud. I usually let everything out on those audios. If I’m angry, frustrated, afraid, worried whatever the emotion is I just let it out. Now these audios are for my ears only lol but I have found it to be helpful. Maybe you should try it if anxiety is plaguing you. All of these things I consider healing mechanisms and calms my anxious mind. Lastly I’ve started doing breathing exercises and I actually find this technique online but I added my own twist to it to make it more suitable for me. All I do is take 3 or 4 deep breaths while reciting Bible Scriptures in my mind. It’s really cool! I’m not only combating anxiety by redirecting my thoughts, I’m also learning and memorizing Bible Verses. How cool is that? Anxiety is a pest ya’ll and just like with any other pest you have to get rid of it or at least try to gain some control of it so you can live a more peaceful life in your body, mind and spirit.
