This is an awesome Chapter of Psalms. Once we read it, study it and meditate on it, we are assured that God is our protector. Let’s break it down so that we can better understand what it is that God is saying to us in this particular book of Psalms.
It starts by saying: He who dwells in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the almighty. I will say of the Lord that he is my refuge and fortress, in him will I trust.
God is telling us that whom ever believes and trust in him, will be protected under his shadow. Although we may not see him, we will be sure to know that he’s there. He is there following us closely and secretly which explains the secret place he speaks of. He also let’s us know that he is our refuge. This means that he is our safe house, our shelter from danger and trouble. Our fortress who is not moved by trials and tribulations nor by disruptive disturbances.
He goes on to say: Surely he shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with his feathers and under his wings you shall take refuge. His truth shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor the destruction that lays waste at noonday.
The God of our call is letting us know that he will rescue us from evildoers and their wickedness. That he will cover us and provide his wings as shelter and a safe haven. He instructs us to not be afraid of people, places and things at night, during the day nor the noonday because he will fight on our behalf, he will comfort us, he will hide us and his word will be our guiding light.
Though many evil and wicked may fall at your side and many at your right hand, nothing evil or negative can come near us because we have remained in his presence and took up his way of living as our permanent place of residence.
God emphasizes that he will charge his angels to watch over us. To help us, to keep us. He offers a reward to us because we love him and have known his name that he will deliver us and honor us. With long life he will satisfy us and show us his salvation.
