Protecting Joy

Joy is the feeling of great pleasure and happiness. It also means to rejoice. Many people may feel happiness when something good happens to them or for them. That is why happiness is based on material things; however, joy is a gift from our heavenly father , Jesus Christ. It is much deeper and more meaningful than just being happy. Happiness may only last for a moment or for a specific amount of time, only for a season but joy is permanent and last for a lifetime. That’s why it is necessary to protect your joy. Protecting your joy is an every day task because the enemy works every day trying to steal it. The enemy could be family members, co-workers, members of your church family, social media, your spouse or your children and the list goes on. You cried, you prayed and you fought for God to restore your joy. Now you have to pray and fight even harder to protect it. There are several ways one can protect their joy. I am going to share with you some things that I am doing to protect mine.

  1. Read and meditate on Bible Scriptures about Joy daily. Memorize them and declare them out of your mouth every day, all day. If you are in a place where there is a crowd such as your job, say them silently in your head until you feel a change in your spirit and in your mind.
  2. Read encouraging, inspiring daily devotionals that target joy. This not only boost your spirit but it also boosts your confidence so that you can walk confidently in your joy.
  3. Apply God’s word/scriptures to your life. This means start doing things that bring you joy. You can not just declare God’s word over your life, you have to walk in it as well. If reading a good book bring you joy, read it. If watching your favorite movie bring you joy, watch it. It could be spending time with family and friends, shopping or just enjoying nature etc… There are so many things we can do to uplift our spirit. I read some where that ” If you want to experience supernatural joy, you have to live in a supernatural way”.
  4. Last but definitely not least, you need to Pray. To protect your joy, you need to have a consistant prayer life. You have to be connected to God which is done by having a personal relationship with him.

These are the steps I use every day to remain in God’s presence and to protect my joy. Once you know how it feels to be stripped of your joy, you will do everything and anything that is good and right to protect it and keep it.

Bible Scriptures On Joy:

Ecclesiastes 9:7

Philemon 1:7

Psalm 27:6

Isaiah 35:10

A Prayer To Protect Your Joy

Lord, we come to you as humble as we know how, with a heart filled with thanksgiving. We thank you for your unspeakable joy. We ask that you will guard our joy and protect it from the snares of the enemy. When we began to feel overwhelmed, sad and anxious by the distresses of life or the memories of our past, we pray that you will do something unique and special just for us to put a smile on our faces and to reignite our joy that only you have given us. AMEN!

Hi everyone. I'm Nekitta Sutton. I've experienced major disappointments, setbacks and losses in life. During those times I had to hold on to my faith and find strength to continue on. Through the trials and sufferings I realized that I was more than a conqueror, I was a survivor. I began to gain knowledge and grow as a person by activating my faith and reading God's word. My hopes are to encourage the masses so that you will be able to regain control over your life and start living again as well. It takes a lot of work and can sometimes be painful but I do know that it's possible and well worth it.
